Broke the carrier in the rear D35 on Sat at RC. I have another carrier to put in but I was scouting the boards and found a ZJ rear 44 with 3.73. How hard of a swap is this? I would like to upgrade but $$$ is the issue right now. The deal I was supposed to get on the other 44's fell through, the guy talked a good game but in the end.....

It would be just bolt in but the problem with zj d44s is they have an aluminum center section and still uses c-clips. so its not much better then the 35

I have an 44a or the 44 hd becasue its the same used in the dodge vipers and stuff for sale if your interested. The only prob is that its not a direct bolt in to a tj. Also you don't even want to convert it to work because the one company that made a locker for it discontinued making it a couple months ago. To be honest the way to go would be finding and building a 8.8 for your jeep. If you need a hand doing it just let me know.

Thanks Joe. I can get a 8.8 from a junkyard in Pa but I hpw hard is the swap? I have ZERO welding skills. I know I used to have a link someone gave me but I know this is something I would need some help with.

the difficulty depends on how cheap you want to be. If you try to reuse your brackets it becomes a real pain in the ass. If you buy a kit with the weld on brackets the dificulty isn't to bad. Me personly I would fab everything up so you make all your brackets high clearence so your not draging them across the rocks all the time. Do some research on JU under 8.8 and you get a better idea on how its done.

i'm not great and would have to make you sign a waiver first lol! but I could give you a hand as long as you took care of all the prep work a head of time.

Prep
1. buying 8.8
2. stripping/cutting off all old brackets
3. preping surfaces for welding/painting
4. have all the parts ready to go to be welded.
5. stop at the store for beer.
actual welding, reasembling, and fitment should only take a short day.

Carrier is an easy fix and the cheapest. as far as brackets I would just buy new ones, they arent that expensive and will be stronger if you get the right ones. Also new brackets saves a lot of time and hassle trying to beat off the old ones. I can weld, not great but may be able to help....not really in your neck of the woods though.
