Its main use is for front digs to help with direction. They are called cutting brakes. The left lever controls just the left rear disc or drum and allows you to lock the rear left wheel and then disingage the rear axle. Then you would turn the wheel left and the rig with cut to the left with the left rear tire holding it in place. The same works for the right hand lever. When doing a front dig it helps to only have to lock one wheel to hold postion and gain more movement by not having to hold the brake for all the wheels and have to power thru all of them

got ya, so I guess this would only work well if you were open or had a locker in the back instead of a spool or being welded do to the fact of one rear tire having to spin while the other stays put.

Also I saw this which makes it a little easyer to understand how it works

you can have a full locker in the back but must be able to disengage the rear axle and just drive with the front. the cutting brakes tie into the hydraulic brake lines. So the line comes in from the master cyl and into the cutting brakes. then two lines go out, one to each side of the rear axle. Effectively you can pull the brake on either side of the rear axle or leave the cutting brake handles alone and they function like normal brakes. I think they cost just over a hundred bucks or so but not sure.

it would mean you would also have to have an atlas ii or something similar to engage/disengage the axles independently correct?

something a bit beyond my DD at this point... but it looks cool to play with... :-)

Hmmm I like this, should work well with the 231/300 combo, seeing that you can twin stick the 300.

Yeah I would say that would be a be help for you Joe. When I swap the drums to Discs in the rear of the Truggy I'm going to set up cutting brakes.

That would work great for a single lever set up. Only problem would be that you can't throw both levers and use it as a parking brake. Up side would be only having one lever to setup and push or pull for either side.

they have one and two lever models. would never work well as a parking brake because the levers don't lock in position. also being hydraulic it could leak down and loose braking ability if used as a parking brake. I don't think they recommend it either.
