Well here is my write up, fell free to add to it.
Well, success once again. Thanks to the off-road enthusiast that responded to the call. What a time we all had, the rain, neither the fog nor the wind could stop us from achieving success. We had participants from New York, Delaware, Virginia, and Pennsylvania and throughout Maryland. From an expected showing of 50 plus drivers, we ended up with 37 and some 20 or so passengers, as well as additional raffle participants that were already at the park. We wheeled throughout the day on Saturday with some carnage; pieces of wood embedded into the wheels, oil pan damage and as I recall broken axle.
But hey, no problem, we had a grand time. On our return from the trails Paul Sobwick who had been preparing the food since Friday afternoon, cooked up one hell of a meal. He served up some 40 lbs of pork barbeque, Louisiana baked beans (they were out of this world), coleslaw, homemade potato salad, roasted chicken, Mmmm…. it was delicious. The spices enhanced the flavors and certainly left you liking your fingers for more.
The raffle and the 50/50 drew many spectators and participants alike, who bought tons of tickets, one such person sticks out the most, Greg Knoll who bought 300 dollars worth. There were about $5045 worth of gift certificates, discount coupons, Adams Jeep donated 5 Steel wheels, NAPA donated 2 batteries, Airgas donated an entire welding suit with head gear, Bushwacker donated a complete set of flairs, BDS a set of 4 top of the line shocks, Adams Suzuki gave up a road emergency kit with cleaning and maintenance stuff, 4 Wheeldrive hardware gave some $400 dollars worth of certificates just to name a few, the list goes on.
Music was substituted with an I-pod and we jammed all day. Good thing we had a tent put up for the food and raffle, it really save the day keeping things semi-dry. Altogether we drew $ 2,000 dollars towards the donation after expenses. There are plenty of event t-shirts left and to help move them we will sell them at $20 buck each. Remaining size are XXlg, XXXlg and XL. If you want to also support this cause, please send us and E-mail for the details.
On behalf of the Maryland Rock Raiders and the American Diabetes Association, thanks to all who participated and made this a truly successful endeavourer. May you and your families be blessed for your continuous support. Be looking for us next year for even a better turn out, food, music and games.
