Can one use a 12v deep cycle marine type battery in a TJ. The one I have access to shows 13.5-13,8Volts for standby use and 14.4-15 volts for cycle use. Initial current 30Amp

A deep cycle is designed to be drawn all the way down to nothing and then charged back up again. A conventional battery can not continue to do that. When charging a deep cycle they like a slower deep charge normally at a lower rate. The reserve capacity (which is the amount of minutes a 25 amp drain can be put on at 80 degrees and maintain 10 volts) on a deep cycle is also longer and thats always better for a winch or stereo equipment.

I have seen many deep cycle's used in place of a conventional battey and you just are not utilizing the initial design of a deep cycle.

I run a dual battery setup using two optima batteries. one runs on the jeep as usual and the winch is hooked up to the other one. they are deep cycle batteries and I've had no issues.
