| I just put winch rope and a aluminum fairlead on the winch. I hate to throw away the roller and steel cable. If anyone wants it, it is free obviously. The roller is in very good condition and the cable seems fine also. The first ten feet is rust color due to the weather but I saw no flaws in it. | |

| How long is the steel cable? I think mine is like 100' and I have little winching power at short distances. a shorter cable would help. | |

| To be honest, I have no idea. I just stuck it in my trailer box. I did notice that the hook did not have a factory cut line end attaching to it. He had doubled the cable and used three of the cable connectors. I guess you could shorten to do the same. | |

| I thought it had to do with the drum diameter and that a longer line used for shorter pulls was what was the way to gain winching power.... am I confused? | |

Yep, backwards. If you look at the winch specs it will show the amount of pull it has depending on the layer of rope/wire it is. the more layers of wire you have the less pull the winch has. If the winch has the power to pull the weight of the jeep(plus overcome the force required to free it from whatever it is stuck on) then the more layers you have the faster the line pull. Mine is just an 8,000# winch and with about 6ish layers of wire its pulling power really sucks unless you take out a lot of line. | |
