| The A/C compressor pulley is howling when engaged and squeeling when not. Sounds like it's time for a replacement. Can the pulley be changed out without pulling (and evactuating) the A/C compressor? My Haynes manual doesn't cover it.

| According to Napa they dont stock the clutch itself. Not saying no one else does but I can get you the hole compressor for $175.00. Thats supposed to be a good deal. Let me know if you need it or if its not a good deal. | |

| I spoke to a Jeep dealer today. They are calling the part an AC Compressor Pulley. They sell a kit for $239.00. Yep, the pulley costs more than an aftermarket compressor. But all I need is the pulley. That I can change by myself, according to the dealer, since I will not have to deal with evacuating the freon. So, I may just buy a whole new unit and just use the pulley. Don't know yet. But $175.00 is a great deal! | |

| Apparently, the fix can be done without evacuating the AC Compressor. I have a link on a how-to for a York clutch/bearing.

Anybody think they can help me with this? Anybody willing? Was thinking of wrenching this weekend. Also, need to fix my leakiy radiator while I'm in there. | |

| Hey Eric, thanks. But I just picked up the part I needed from the dealer. Didn't want to have to mess with the whole compressor. So, I am wrenching Sunday. I'll be in my driveway since the weather looks pretty decent. Anybody wants to stop by, that is where to find me. Covered in grease and dirt. | |

| Just wanted to let you know how the day went. I think it was a Jeep repair first! Danny was the first to arrive, so we went out to look at the Jeep, to see where we might want to start. Of course, taking the bolt out of the clutch assemby was first. Problem here...it spins. So, you put a ratchet on it, and it spins. So we are trying to think of a way to remove it when the lightbulb goes off over Danny's head. Put the ratchet on the bolt and turn the Jeep on. The clutch assembly will spin the bolt right out. Great thinking! It worked like a charm. So now ro remove the pulley. Kat arrives. The three od us are trying to figure out how to get the pulley out. Hmmmmmm, is this what we needed a pulley puller for? I go into the shed to check the toolbox, having no idea what one looks like. Finding nothing, we wait for Joe. Joe arrives with a puller. Have to take the AC compressor off the bracket to be able to work on it. We make fast work of that and are ready to take the pulley off. AHA! There is a ring clip! Out come the ring clip pliers. While Joe and Danny work on the ring clip, Kat and I head out to get some lunch for everyone. We get back, about 20 minutes later, and the Jeep is all put back together. Apparently, the ring clip pliers didn't work, but three screwdrivers did. After that, it was an easy part swap. So the pulley is so quiet now that I can actually hear the vortex air intake whirring. Cool! Thanks Danny and Joe. You guys Rock! And Kat, as always thanks for helping out a FVDG! You da best! Sorry there are no pictures, but it all happened so fast, there wasn't time. | |
