If anyone has others I would love to see them. Buy or borrow - either is fine by me...

| What do you think about putting a MARR run together that more or less follows the UAV format - would let us use tow rigs, but think it would be very cool to plan a 1-2 week wheeling trip.
We could hit some on the way parks to make travel times more segmented too.
I have access to a dualie with a fifth wheel hookups. if we could score a 3 car trailer it would make driving pretty easy too.

| I would love to do this but it wouldn't be feasible for a few years. I'm planning on taking my jeep to moab on her 10 year anniversary...if she survives another 2 years that is. yah yah yah, flame away but that's my plan and i'm sticking to it! | |

If you and your jeep make it I promise you will be in your rear view mirror the whole way out there. Greg I would love to do this but my tow rig is my work truck and you need to keep in mind V-DOT's weight limit is 25K. A 3 rig trailer, gear and a dually will normally put you over weight. Once you get over the limit you have to think weight station and state troopers. Two car carriers are your best bet. If you have any questions let me know I have a friend that moves cars for a living with a baby freightliner. He knows all the rules and regs. Also no he is not interested in taking our rigs anywhere.

| tow rig with two jeeps on the back you should be fine with weight stations as long as your not running no logos on the truck. That makes you comercial and you have to stop with anything over 10,000 gvw.
To be honest any 1 ton truck with 3 rigs on it is going to get its suspension worked. I would go with a 450 or heavier to help level out the suspension and make sure you have at with 4.33 or 4.88 gears with a deisal to get through the mountains.
I'm down for Fall time or so if work picks up some so I can cover the 4 or 5 grand its going to cost to run all the way out west and back with a tow rig.
how about we do a small trip to the mid west some where first.

| There is also the possibility of getting an auto mover to take them out there. It would get there pretty fast if all the vehicles were coming from and going to the same place. I just did a quick online quote and it would be about $700 each way....alot cheaper than 4 or 5 K. Then we could fly out and rent vehicles/trailers (for the non street legal ones) or just have to drive the tow rigs out. Just a thought.
Alot of planning would have to go into a trip out there but it would be worth it.
Joe's idea of a mid-west trip might be good just to get an idea of how driving all the way out there would be. Badlands Off Road Park anyone?

| remember it goes by gross vehicle weight not actual weight. Any truck that has a logo or marked in any way is 10,000 lbs. needs DOT. and anything 25,0000 marked or not marked needs CDL. it is possible to have a 2 car tailer and 350 rated for over 25,000lbs. depends on the trailer. even though actual weight is less then 25,000lbs. | |

| Ok, I like the way the discussion is heading. Mostly because it sounds like everyone is interested...
Lets quit the idea of the 3-car hauler. Between DOT requirements and the still unidentified - trailer, it is too much to work out...
If we could ship for $1400, that sounds like a good way to go for the west trip- spend the 3 days each way saved in the office and we could put a big dent in that cost.
Also if anyone is going mid-west I am in. Right now I am hoping to make tellico this year - will be the furthest I have ever gone to date...
Nutshell- lets try for a trip to the midwest this year or next - tellico in April is already planned. Maybe look for the 2011 trip out west to celebrate Bill's 10 years of wheeling. If we can naildown dates we could start looking at events and destinations for that trip at upcoming trail rides.
Bill, you interested enough to start a new thread with a proposed itinerary to kick around?
Same thing for the mid-west option? maybe this summer or in the fall...

| matt comercial and privatly owned rigs come in two different catigories. thats why you see some trucks that say not for hire on them. Those people dont have to stop at weight stations under a certain amount. this is also true with 10,000# and trailers over 10,000#
comercial 10,000# or more trailers you need A class a Modified to run were a private you dont need anything.
Same with comercial 10,000# trucks you need medical cards, dot numbers and to stop at weight stations.
private trucks under 26,000# you don't need anything to operate or stop at weight stations
trust me when I say I have been read the law a few times before and several of my guys have been popped. i was spot checked at the bay bridge and was given a hassel till i pointed out to the trooper that the truck was in my name not the company name. So he had to let me go, the bastard was trying to get me for all sorts of crap.

| Yeah I'm in for Harlan but I vote for a well planned large group run in 2011. Not to stop you guys if you want to go this year. Its just that I'm getting married in October so this years event focus is on Big Dogs and JOTB (any idea danny? start a new thread)
Bad lands wouldn't be a bad idea as well. Its a orginized park with guides and maps.

| I'll start looking for a rental place farther down towards Hatteras. Karen really wants a place that allows dogs, and I know Dave will want to bring Ginger along.... | |

| damn man 2011 why don't we worry about 2009 an 2010 first. Any one down for the badlands in may? I was supposed to go last two mays but broken rigs have prevented that. Then may be in Oct we can head to tellico. Then next year we'll look into the west thing. | |
