| Here is the story to support the pictures herein. The Maryland Rock Raiders rocking the creek Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of June, 2007. In attendance to this event on Saturday were; Bill Gilbert with wife Elva, son Aaron and Casey and the family dog Wendy, Kathy Meneghini and husband Dave, Gill Lavallee, Scott Miles and friend Demetrios Lynch, Cameron Bosshard and friend Mark Wilkinson, Randy Wood and friend Tony Liddick from 849 Auto repair Shop in PA, Special appearance by Paul Sobwick and his friend Josh Halbedel and yours truly Tico Carreras. On Sunday, we were joined by Chris Lloyd and his friends Justin Zulauf and Brian Brewer. Arriving at the park around 8:30 we got set up and ready to trail by 9AM, Once the pleasantries got done and everyone was ready we headed out, at the point leading the trail was Bill, who wanted to get nasty with the blacks and reds, but we also had stockers with us so we compromised and trailed all levels. The new members got their fill with us this weekend we had lots of obstacles and lots of carnage to boot. The Park is changing a great deal, form traveling there over the last 4 to 5 years, you can see the size of the place, but now that they have harvested the trees and the land is clear the place is huge! They are building an artificial rock competition level course, which will be open for all who come to the park, but only after the WEROCK competition slated for July 14th. By the way, those members interested in assisting the competition as judges, please contact me to submit a roster as a club and for further details, they could use the help and we could use the experience too. We began our day out in the south property getting into everything that we could by way of trail C and taking trail 4 Blue, minor delays and coaching with the stockers, once on the E trail Bill took half of the group to trail 20 on the West property as I took the rest toward Lake Christy. The day could not have been any better; sunny, clear, dry and hot! In fact I got a sun burn out of it. Happy to have my Jeep back from repairs I still had to be watchful of the front diff assembly, it turned out that my front lower control arms where damaged and made the whole system rotate about an inch or two. We gingerly drove through the south property and took on some down slopes and twisted here and there, as we approached the lake it was what approach to take, the left or the right, hmmm the right. We climbed up this some hill and bang there it was the lake waiting and inviting someone to take a dip…hehehehe, little does anyone know that you can’t drive beyond a Jeep body with before you get sucked in to the deep. While it is fun splashing water everywhere you still have to be careful not to take in water through your intake, right Cameron! While we set up for lunch at the lake, there were other off road enthusiasts from New York and New Jersey. On had a new Yota truck and he said he learned earlier to drive it like he stole it, Hmmmm… Following him was a Marylander in a khaki Jeep X wrangler, putting up a show along with another with a Silver Rubicon; unfortunately I have since forgotten their names. For nearly 30 minutes they provided entertainment for our lunch hour. Then Bill and the rest of the group met up with us at the lake and we provided the show. Kathy was happy to plunge into the lake cautiously, as did Bill but he managed to take in some water into the distributor and then Cameron getting restless and daring he plunged into the lake only to get stopped by the water ¾ of the way in. He took water in the engine and just died on the spot. (The lesson here is; don’t plunge in the water if you don’t have a snorkel or a redirected air intake). After Scott Miles and Demetrios along with Bill got took their Jeeps up and around the top of the lake. The rest of us enjoyed the show. There was the silver Rubicon from the Maryland Jeep club driving and testing the edges of the lake, he did well by driving very slowly, at one point it look like he was going to take in water. Out of the Lake and onto the camel back and snakebite trails; Bill had no issues, Randy had no issues, Paul had no issues, I got half way and there was a snap, click and grind…oh @%&#! I broke again. Dam 2 months down, 2 days of fun and broken again. Does it get better than that, of course, I was stuck in the middle of the camel back trail, the rear passenger axle was slipping out and an of camber area, great! Tony a potential new member and mechanic jumped in there and studied the situation, OK; let’s wedge the tire with a tube or something to hold it from moving then strap in the wheel from sliding out. OK, sounds good, the tube came from my high lift jack, the straps from Paul’s spare tire carrier. I had to drag the tire out which meant “slow drag, make it easy”, isn’t there a song like that? I drove it off camel back with the help of Paul who strapped me out. Then Kathy got stuck but wouldn’t give up and after several minutes she succeeded getting out. Yes, Camel back and put a hurting to some and not even faze others. As for me, Oh well, my day was over. Following me out where Scott Miles with Demetrios and Josh, Gill and Cameron with Mark. I got some distance, I made it to the Query area and began to take the wrong turn, as I tried to back up the tube and the strap came undone and the wheel began to slide out again, Now what, Scott had to take Josh back to the stage area so he could leave and meet his parents at Annapolis and Scott had other commitment too, so Cameron and Scott headed out while Gill and I figure out how to fix the problem. Mean while Bill and the hard core group decided to play in the snakebite trail, then Paul broke his tie rod and Bill messed up his pitman arm. Gill loan me his high lift, then I repaired the damaged tube and re-strapped the wheel back in, and by that time the other group cough up with me and Cameron had returned. Dragging my Jeep out, Kathy and Dave headed toward the pig roast so Dave can join the hunt club. Some of the members drove tomb stone, while I finally broke the straps on the E trail nearest to the B trail exit. Cameron sat around watching my Jeep; Gill took me to get my truck and trailer. (Don’t know what happened in my absence). When I return and had the citation in hand, the group headed back toward the stage area along the way they hit more trails. This was the end of the day for me and the day. Paul discovered a very nice bar restaurant within the city of Pine Grove called O’Neal’s; I got to tell you that the food was fantastic! Most of you know I don’t do the bar scene, but the ambiance, the owner and the food was well worth it. In the company of friends, good food I felt OK and had a grand time. Highly recommend it next time we are there. They have a restaurant section in the back that can accommodate our club. The only thing that sucks is the parking. Mike O’Neal sends his regards and invitation. Sunday, how disappointed, not many members stayed for the second day, just Paul and I remained, with a broken axle I was done, therefore I did the right seat with Paul and Chris Lloyd called to say he was already there waiting for us. Bill and Paul removed my axle to see how bad it was, and it twisted and snapped at the spine end. Oh well! It was a good day. Bill and Randy packed up and left as Paul and I headed to meet with Chris. At Rausch we met another potential member; Justin Zulauf along with Brian Brewer who had been on the trails with us before. We set up and off we went. The entire day belong to Chris, therefore you will see many pictures of him. I walked the trails and spotted both Paul and Chris. We drove through the blacks and the red on trail 5 and 4, trail 8, snake bite, tomb stone and Boot hill we also found a new trail off of trail C called “Black Nasty Rocks” I have been told that folks there have broken many of Dana 60’s and buggies too!, I think with the right spotter it could be driven. Another day! By 3PM we had our fill of the trails and we packed up and return to the Comfort Inn, got my vehicle and we parted our ways. What a great outing! Carnage report; Bill; pitman arm, Chris; rear diff locker cable, Paul; tie rod and more dents to the body of the Cherokee, Cameron; an engine (after he got home), and (me)Tico; rear driver side axle, wheel rim, 5150 Belstine shock, and axle C clip…that I know off. Thanks to all the members and their friends for a most interesting fun weekend, until our next meet…Adams Jeep Jam on the 16th..

| Just so you know my wife's name is Elva. The only Gina I know is an ex girlfriend from high school and if I wheeled with her there would be trouble. My sons names are Aaron and Casey. The family dog is Wendy. It's ok Tico I'm terrible with names as well. As it turns out my pitman arm is fine but the drag link end attaching to the pitman arm was toast and resulted in poor steering control. In addition the steering box is going bad and wobbles back and forth now. I have an appointment with Full circle performance to install the hydraulic assist kit from PSC which includes a new steering box etc. | |
