SWR meter reads the signal and will help tune the antenna. I have a Firestick Antenna and like it. got it at the flying J truck stop in elkton $20

My CB has an internal SWR meter. You flip a switch to calibrate with antenna and cable all assembled. then key the mike and turn a calibration knob to "zero" the meter. helps with "tuning" the CB.

do you normally have to tune a cb??? I just bought mine took it out of the box and hooked it up. It appeared to be working at the last ride.

I guess maybe the long range is where you would need to tune.

My fire stick is a "tuneable" antenna. It will optimize the signal.

You should always tune your antenna. Any time you replace or even move it. Signals are relected differently from different points on your vehicle. It will make a difference in short range and a major difference in long range. If you dont want to spend the $20.00, most truck stop cb shops will do it for you for $5 - $10. Sometimes free if you buy stuff from them. The FireStick is a very good choice for an antenna.
