| I currently live in Colorado, but it is looking like I may be moving to Sykesville, Maryland for work in the next few months. I was wondering what sorts of 4x4 opportunities are available in that region. I have been planning on building up a multi-purpose SUV that could both do some crawling and pre-running type driving, but may need to rethink that now that it looks like I may be leaving Colorado.
Considering how much easier old rust free SUVs are to find here than on the east coast, it may be good to modify my purchasing and building plan as needed before moving across the country.
I would guess that there would be a far number of rockcrawling style trails throughout the nearby mountains. How about faster stuff? Since there seems to be a distinct lack of deserts around there, I am not anticipating much along that lines.
Are there any major differences between offroading on the east coast and doing so in the Rocky Mountains that I should be aware of?

| Dont mind Tico he gets a little happy when new people come around. There is alot of types of wheeling in the VA, MD and PA area. Most of the time we play at Rausch Creek Off Road park. There are a couple of events in virginia held that are call Big Dogs. Most of what you will find there is Rock Crawling and Trail riding. There is some mud and a number of mud bogs in the area as well. If you head towards the Coast you will find beach driving and camping places. If your plan is to build a mild SUV build the wheel and street then you will find plenty of places around here to run your rig. Desert racing and prerunner style rigs have little to no use on the east coast. Welcome to the board and feel free to ask any questions. Oh and tell us more detail on your future build plans. | |

| Well, after considering just how few places a built rockcrawling 4x4 truck or SUV can be used in the area, I am thinking it may make the most sense to pursue other modes of offroad fun. Currently I am thinking that setting up a WRX, STi, Evolution, or other rally based car for the dirt and competing in the local rallycross racing series would be a far more convenient mode of dirty fun.
(For those who aren't sure what rallycross is, it is timed races through relatively flat but twisty dirt courses. Some pictures from this year's national championship are at http://www.zoto.com/ilikeitsideways/albums/17315/)

| Jason at Power's Rock and Rally sells a ton of Jeep stuff, but he's also into the subaru stuff as a side hobby. If you need any parts you can e-mail or call him. He is up 95 in Abington.
