Here are the proposed rules for the race series.

RCROCS Race Series Safety Rules

Driver/Occupant Safety Rules

Helmets
All vehicle occupants MUST have a DOT or SNELL approved helmet on while competing. Helmet shall be free of cracks or defects. Helmet must be at a minimum ¾ design. NO half helmets will be approved for competition. All occupants must have eye protection on 100% of the time while competing. Face shield, goggles or safety glasses shall be approved at the discretion of the marshals. A full face helmet is recommended but not required.

Neck Brace/Roll
All occupants shall wear a neck brace/roll from a known manufacturer. A homemade neck roll will not be approved for competition.

Fire Suit
All occupants shall wear a complete fire suit consisting of jacket and pants or a one-piece suit. Gloves and boots are optional but recommended. All suits must be in good condition and not worn through in any way or have large amounts of dirt or fluids on them.

Vehicle Safety Rules

All vehicles must have a basic first aid kit securely fastened to the vehicle.

Fire Extinguishers

All vehicles will have a minimum of Two (2) ABC fire extinguishers. One of those must be within reach of the driver while completely buckled in !

If a vehicle has a fire suppression system, one nozzle must be pointed directly at the driver and or passenger along with having one ABC extinguisher within reach while completely buckled in.

All extinguishers must have a separate mounting bracket to hold them securely in place and easily removed by flipping a latch or pulling a pin. Directly clamping, taping, gluing or using a bungee on the extinguisher itself to hold it in place is not allowed.

Driver Restraints
Vehicles shall have at minimum a 5-point harness system for each occupant.

All restraint systems must be mounted according to the manufacturers directions and be able to secure occupants in the event of a crash or rollover without deforming or failing.

All belts must be mounted so that the direction of pull is in a straight line against the anchor point and to the driver as well as being secured to a structural part of the cage. ( see link below )

No shoulder belts may pass through or over the seat and be offset to the driver or passenger side of the vehicle more than the width of the belt. Shoulder harness must be secured directly behind the driver seat, and as close as possible to the seat and one another.

Shoulder harnesses may not drop behind the seat and be secured to the floor or cross member in any way. Mounting point may not be more than a few inches below the top of the shoulders. This will be up to the marshal’s discretion !

Window Nets

Vehicles must have a window net on each side of the vehicle, regardless of occupants, and secured so that no part of the body is able to pass through while seated. Any gaps within reach behind the “A” pillar ( such as a wing window area ) must be filled with either netting, heavy gauge sheet metal or other type of solid material such as Lexan.

Netting and its fasteners must be secured on the inside of the vehicle so that it cannot be damaged or torn off in the event of a rollover.

Nets must be installed so they can be easily reached and released by the occupants of the vehicle. A small gap of 3” or less around the front vertical portion of the netting to aid in someone externally releasing the netting will be allowed. All other gaps between the netting and cage/door must be kept to a minimum not to exceed 2” in any way.

Netting must be securely fastened every 6” along the top or bottom with hooks, clamps or a steel rod and buckle. You may NOT use Velcro or Zip Tie’s to fasten any part of the window netting to the vehicle! Steel rods must be a minimum of 3/8”

Nets must be secured by a positive locking mechanism and shall be installed so that the driver can release the netting and exit the vehicle unassisted regardless of vehicle position.

Seating

Stock OEM production seats are prohibited.

All seats must be of a suspension design and not have a rigid backing such as plastic or aluminum.

Seats must be mounted to a secure structure attached to the cage or mounted directly to the frame in a safe manner. Mounting directly to the floor pan will not be allowed without having a support extending to the frame rail or cross member.

General Vehicle Guidelines

All vehicle designs and types are allowed.

All vehicles regardless of type must have at minimum a Six (6) Point roll cage directly tied into the frame at all 6 points. All cages must have an “A” pillar close to or near the foot/pedal area of the vehicle. A main hoop, or “B” pillar, over or just behind the occupants seat. A “C” pillar going from the main hoop to the rear of the vehicle at no less than 50% of the total height of the main hoop from the driver compartment floor.

All vehicles must have a solid roof as made as factory or if modified, no less than 1/8” thick expanded steel or solid aluminum. A soft top is not considered a solid roof.

All front engine vehicles must have a hood so as to completely cover the engine bay from frame rail to frame rail (or body side to body side) at its outermost point top or bottom, whichever is greater.

All front engine vehicles must have a firewall, which runs from frame rail to frame rail, and floor pan to the lower portion of the windshield area.

All rear engine vehicles must have a firewall between the driver and engine extending from frame rail to frame rail, and floor pan to roofline.

Firewalls may be made of metal or plastic but must be sealed so as to keep fluids from spraying onto the vehicle’s occupants.

Any vehicle using a remotely ( rear ) mounted radiator or cooler must either run a complete firewall or a shroud separating it from the occupants so no fluid can spray directly onto them in case of a failure..

Any vehicle running a rear mounted fuel cell must have a rear firewall regardless of engine placement.

Any vehicle running an in-cab fuel tank or fuel cell must have a sealed shield separating it completely from the occupants of the vehicle.

All fluids must be self contained on the vehicle with catch cans or sealed off, including but not limited to, Transmission, Transfer Case, Cooling System, Power Steering and axles.

Vehicles using factory doors must have a secondary, permanently mounted latching mechanism inside to hold the door in place should the factory latch fail.

Vehicles running with no doors, door skins or complete sheet metal skins, must have an inner horizontal door bar as part of the roll cage so as to protect the occupants from a side impact.

Floors of vehicles must be complete so as to shield the occupants from fluids as well as broken parts. All holes in floors except those necessary must be cover, fixed or sealed.

Floors must run from the lower edge of the firewall to behind the seats and from door panel to door panel.

All vehicles must be in sound running and working condition. I.E. Frame, Body, Chassis must be complete to a point and not rusted or unsafe.

Vehicle numbers must be at least 2”x 6” and place on 4 sides of the vehicle. Left, Right, Front and Rear so as to be visible as possible to everyone while competing.

Teams competing in any RCROCS series previously have the right of first pick for numbers. Afterwards all numbers chosen must be retained for the length of that season.

RCROCS officials have the right to refuse any competitor or vehicle for any reason from racing or partaking in the event in any way and without a refund.

OMG after reading through it is a hell of a lot of work. I have fiberglass so I think i have to build a metal firewall. gotta put a 1/8" roof on it, window nets etc. list just got way longer. I'm going to keep plugging away and see where i stand when the time comes. If worse comes to worse i could convert to buggy and link it but i was hoping to at least run the mud bogs a few times in the stock 40 class first.
