| Here is some information I found on Coal Creek.
Lodging near the Coal Creek riding area:
Hotels
Comfort Inn ... 865-481-8200
Days Inn ... 865-483-5615
Super 8 ... 865-483-1200
Campgrounds
Windrock Campground ... 865-435-3939 or 865-659-3939
Windrock Campground is located approximately 2 miles from the trail head. You can ride straight from the campground to the trail head without having to trailer your off road vehicle. They work closely with those that maintain the riding area and help support all efforts to keep it going strong, so we encourage you to visit their campground when in the area. Visit their web site for more details.
Helton's RV Park and Campground... 865-435-5221 Helton's RV Park and Campground is located just five miles from the trail head, they provide camping, a shower house, furnished mobile homes and full RV hookups. Visit their web site for more details
There are a few primitive camping sites at the main parking area
that are on a first come first serve basis.)
Camping at Coal Creek OHV
ALL campers MUST have a valid Coal Creek Land Use Permit for each person on the property in their possession. Permit must show date / time that camping is taking place.
No alcohol/drug use on Coal Creek property at any time.
NO primitive camping is allowed in the larger, graveled main parking area or the upper lot near the permit shed on weekends (Friday or Saturday nights) Those parking areas are needed for heavy amount of day riders Coal Creek receives on Saturday and Sundays.
However, primitive (no restrooms or running water) camping is allowed at the lower fenced in parking area and along the left side of the roadway leading up to the permit shed, at NO charge per night.
Also, there is another primitive camping area on the left just before #2 trail entrance that will accomodate 4-5 campers easily.
Any campfires MUST be in an enclosed fire ring or compatible container to catch the ashes and combat the risk of fire damage to the property.
We ask that NO camping be done in the larger, graveled parking area or the lot near the permit shed on weekends. Those parking areas are needed for heavy amount of day riders Coal Creek receives on Saturday and Sundays.
Windrock Campground is open with all services available. Located just 1 mile from trailhead parking. Direct access to trails without having to trailer ATV's and Dirt Bikes.

| weather is very unpredictable at that time of year, usually winter is winding down by end of Feb, with a few small snows and cold temps into first couple weeks of March, best thing to do is plan for temps in the 40's during the day, and go from there, do a google or yahoo before you come and type in Oliver springs on the weather locator and check the 10 day forecast....... _________________ 2005 Brute Force 750/Custom Yellow with black marble/ITP type-7 wheels/ 25' Bighorns/ Warn 2.5/Richochet A-arm guards/HMF pipe/ jetted/EPI maroon primary spring/VDI Copperhead CDI | |

| This is obviously one person's take on it but I guess we need some more investigation on it before we make a 9 hour hike...
I realize that Windrock primarily caters to the ATV and bike communities.
(All 60+ trails are opened to ATV/bikes, but only 21 non-Gravel trails are opened to Jeeps, and of those only 7 are rated as difficult).
Is there any Jeep Club that is involved with the CC or WATVClub management in planning any new Jeep trails? On the surface, Windrock's claim of 72,000 acres and 160+ miles of trails sounds great, but from a realistic Jeep perspective, the available trails is much, much less than that; and when you want to look at trails that are difficult and require technical Jeeps with lockers, winching, and 33+ tires, things twindle down to about 6 trails that are really challenging for Jeepers. (8, 15, 21, 23, 38, & 39s end)
I realize cutting trails is expensive, and trail maintenance is also an issue. I am just wondering if anyone is involved in looking into future expansion to better cater to the Jeep community who prefer difficult trails as opposed to the offerage of long but easy scenic trail runs.
I would love to see Windrock begin to cater more to the Jeep Community and offer more technically difficult trail options like smaller parks like Tellico, WITC, and Woolies have been doing.
This type of consideration shouldn't take away anything from the ATV and bike communities, nor their trails, which are some of the best in the South.
