| I saw an atlas on the creepers board for $1900, saw a built D300 for I think $1000 or $1200. Remember when you do this that the $ you spend on better equipment now is well spent. If you save a few dollars to purchase a "good enough" item it usually ends up costing you much more in the end when it breaks and takes out something else along the way. When mounting the coilovers one thing I did wrong was to install the shocks at an angle the wrong direction. In my opinion. The fronts are angled back at the top, no big deal right? well when you consider the spring rate for a good ride you calculate the angle at ride height. Well if it angles back the angle will increase as the coil compresses. that means the spring rate reduces the more it compresses and makes it more prone to bottom out. I'd love to go back and install the coilovers more perpendicular to the control arms to correct this. That would keep the angle the same with compression(relatively) and make spring selection easier. So the other jeep will be Mandy's ride? | |

| After getting chewed out on my other board for even thinking about anything other then a atlas Ive decided just to hold off till funds are available. i'm considering just selling that green jeep now so I can have the atlas in time for big dogs.
Good point on that angle thing, i was back and forth on whether or not to angle them when I push the axle forward.

| since you are doing this thing over anyway you should look into racing next year. doesn't take much more than what you already have. | |

I'm working on that, Just need to get my funds in order and then we'll go from there. Okay I finally got started on my front chop. I'm kind of deciding how I want to do it as I go and since I'm doing this on a mock up jeep first I don't have to worry about my jeep being out of commission. Which is nice not to be under pressure to finish it in a time frame. Got every thing stripped out of the engine compartment. The first cut is the hardest but nice not having to worry if you screw up. I cut the rails long for now so I can figure out exactly were I want to the new frame rail. one down. Two down really not much to unibody rails is it? I think im going to get rid of the rad. fan and put an electric fan in so i can move the bumper back.

| I'm going to use 2x4 box instead of tube. As for the frame i'm going to cap off the rails and weld the box to that. Then just fish plate the old and new rail together. | |

| basically yea, but the main reason was to loose the arb to get a better approach angle plus knock off a few pounds. My goal is to loose 500# by spring. | |

Actually haven't got to use that 1.5" tube at all. My 1.75 die won't bend it very well so i'm going to have to order a new die for it which is almost $200 On top of that I need a stick of 1.75 so the front tube work matches the rest of the tube work. I sold that locker so i'm going to try to start rebuilding the broken C.O. this month. I'm hoping to have all the needed mock up done on this jeep by the end of February so I can get started on the real deal and be ready for big dogs at the end of April. So i may have a wrenching party some time in April just so I know ill be ready. Ive found its alot easier to pull the motor and do the grunt work with an extra set of hands.

| Defiantly, it will be plated top and bottom and all of it will be welded firm to the frame. I just don't want to do that yet in case o want to move something when I swap it over to my jeep. It's 1/4" steel plate so I'm guessing it will stay put:) | |
