Hellow friends and memebrs,

Recently I became the benefactor of a 1979 CJ7, while it is free it runs and needs some restorations work, this is the perfect vehicle to become a project Jeep to benefit the club and the ADA fundraiser.

What do we need?

1. Body restoration from rust spots
2. Brake lines need to be replace.
3. Power steering unit needs to be replace.
4. Paint job.

and thats what I know so far. I hope to have it picked up by Saturday. It has a clean title too. This could very well be what we needed to put us over the top on out fundraiser efforts. Now we just have to find the donations of parts and labor to clean it up.

Once restored to a practical Jeep, we will sell tickects for $100 each. The big question is what can you do for us to help?

see if a tech school like eastern tech or hardford tech will restore it for you. Great for them and the club.

Hey Tico, Paul has a great idea.. Tina's son go's to Harford Tech and I can check into it for you. I could probably get Napa to donate the parts being its for the ADA.

Let me know..

This is a great effor. I need someone that has a tailer or can use my trailer to pick it up for me, I still can't drive and I will need to get a temp tag for it. The Idea for a vitech school is great, who can contact one of the them. I can make some calls, but with limited mobility, I am stuck at home. Plese keep this going on, I think we got a good thing here.

do you think it will be more worth selling it, then to raffle it off. I would think you would make more money. I guess it might not be to hard to get 20+ people to buy $100 ticket but I know I don't have the money for just a chance to win a rusted jeep.

Well If it's raffle it can be writen off as a gift and meets the donation regulations. If I sell it, then it's a profit even though I donate the money. I hope to get the rust problem solved if I can get someone to donate the time, materials and work. We are all resorful I would hope this would be easier collectively.

Maybe to get more tickets sold - put something on the web pages using paypal. Maybe some of the other clubs might put it on their web site - buy w/ paypal and mail the tickets out

Before you guys get all carried away with this a couple of things need to be done. First, someone needs to have a couple of pros look at the CJ and figure just how much work is going to be needed to fix this rig. Then over all cost on paper before you just taking accepting items with out a game plan.

The Body needs sanding and paint, the frame needs sand blasting, the windshield needs to be replace or repaired, the floor pan like all CJ7 of its class needs repairs or replacement. It's a project for sure. The steering pump just needs a new line and it could use some light mods. Other than that its a good investment. So far is costing me 140 for the tags, 250 for 6 months insurance.

I will check into Harford Tech on Monday.. You need to keep in mind school is out in 3 months so its not going to happen this year. You would have to get it to them before school starts and let them have it all year. It definitely going to need some work but would be a perfect job for the tech school if they want to fool with it.

Chris, I went to get it tonight but it would not start. I didnt feel like fooling with it in the rain after I unloaded my rig and everything to go get it. I didnt know they didnt try starting it today when they were there. I will probably do it Sunday some time.

Its actually a 1/4 mile from my house.

The jeep is pulled face in and there are cars all around it. I am off Tuesday so I will do it during the day when everyone is at work..

Tico, I will call you later..Heading to Salisbury. I tried but it went straight to voice mail.

I had the trailer hooked to the truck so I dont have much mobility to get close enough to the jeep to jump start it..

Just got your phone message and didnt want to call this late.. Its not that I dont want to bring it to you, it doesnt run. I have been there twice with the trailer and I pushed it out to the other curb by myself and it wouldnt take a jump. Either the battery has a bad cell and wont take the jump or the thing has not run in a long time...its turning over. i didnt spend the time to check for a spark.

I can try again friday night at 7pm (if its not raining) if you can bring your jeep or have someone there with a winch to pull it up on my trailer. I cant push it up the trailer myself. my jeep doesnt have tags so I cant use that......

Let me know..............

I can be called anytime before 11PM any day. I didn't say you didn't try, I said you nor I could recruit help to assist you at that time. My Jeep is still not road worthy, and if I don't trust it on the road I can't have someone else drive. Von has a 1500lbs winch that can be used off of a trailer mount with a 2 inch opening.

The CJ is now at home and resting until it finds a new home to be worked on. While I had sun light I took some pictures of all the areas I could see. I still can't bend so I got what I could on the under carriage. Clik on the picture to see the slide show.

the good... it appears to be mostly bone stock original right down to the radio.

the bad... typical rust spots will need alot of work

I really didnt look it over closely but everything looks like original. Floors are soft. I have been driving right past it for over 5 years three or four times a week. I have never seen it move.
I have seen a few fiberglass tubs on craigslist. That would be the quickest and cheapest way but it depends on how Tico wants to handle it..

Something like this needs to be torn down and went over piece by piece.

Hell, with the title in hand and the historic plates there is nothing we can't do to this. Plastic tubs would work. What is cheaper, retoration work or plastic tube?

You guys are right, it's all stock except for the tires and the tape player. It has 135, 600 miles.
