| Subject: Help finding a tow rig... Tue Oct 07, 2008 1:12 pm | |
| So I am in the market for a new tow rig. Everyday I scour craigslist in DE, MD, VA, WV, PA, NY, OH, DC and NJ, as well as e-bay. Nothing has come about from those yet.
I am being pretty picky with what I want, so that could be part of my issue. I figure if I am going to spend this kind of $$ I should get what I want.
So if any of you come across anything in your travels or hear of something that fits what I am looking for, I would greatly appreciate you contacting me.
Price Range - $10-12k Manufacturer - Preferably Dodge, but if it's a great deal on a Chevy or Ford, great. Engine - Diesel 2500 - 3500 Mileage - Under 125k Cab - Extended Bed - Long
Thanks in advance for your help!! Chris

| be carful with them dodges, for the price range your talking about would put you at late 90's early 2000 which is some crappy years for dodge. you would be better off with a ford or chevy. | |

| the dodges in the late 90,s had no power. the chevy,s had injection problems b-4 the duramax came out. so if you are going 90,s then the ford i think is the way to go, the power stroke has been out for awhile | |

| Ok I talked to a guy today who works for Mack Truck and his second job is servicing diesel engines. He has been doing this for many years, he is a little older than me. He said "I make more money from working on ford diesel trucks than all the other models combined". I asked about Duramax and he said he knows several people that own them and they have had no issues. | |

Scccccchhhhhhwwwweeetttt!!!!!!!!!!! He got to experience the beast that comp weekend when Gratefull Red was chauffered by the Krawler Hauler...LOL Seriously, Chris has looked at a few Duramax's but finding one less than 15-17k without alot of miles has always been hard. I traded in my 03 with 115k and got 17.5 from a dealer so you know what they would sell it for.. There is one we are keeping our eyes on, so maybe it will work out. 01 and 02 had injector problems but GM warranted them for 200k. 03 the problem was fixed..

| As soon as I read Bill's post I knew Matt would be excited!
Thanks for all the help and advice. Once again, I know I am being very particular, but pretty confident if I am patient enough, something will come along. I know $10 - $12k is a dream. I can go a little higher if it is one hell of a deal!
Keep those eyes and ears open!!
Thanks again! Chris | |

| Hey chris I would check in to craigslist in Texas. I was reading on the pirate that trucks are going for alot cheaper down there. That and you can fly out of BWI for cheap to the Houston or Dallas area. I haven't check prices myself yet. Good luck remember trucks with a 8 ft box resell higher. | |

| Funny you should mention Texas Nester. I just started looking there a couple days ago on craigslist. I have a buddy who just moved to Austin. So if I found a truck there (which there are ALOT for sale), I could kill two birds with one stone. Thanks for the advice! | |

| Hey Chris are you really set on a diesel Amy's 6.0 chevy hauls very good and there are no issues with them thats why she bought it just a sug. may be easier to find we thought of a diesel but chose the 6.0 and have no regrets.. | |

| I was thinking the same thing Rob. It gets down to the diesel vs gas argument and when it comes down to the cost of fuel i'm not sure a diesel pays off here. Especially from the initial higher expense of a diesel as well. Slim pickings for what you want too so maybe the gas should be considered. Diesel's still win the cool factor though! I won't argue that! | |

| Yeah well if he is trying to pull more than one rig or needs to use it for other things he might want to pull more. I know Ryan tows with his 2500 with a 6.0 and he hauls ass all the way up the mountain. | |
