I have been wanted to do that for a while, but a guy I know that does machineing couldn't figure out how mount the ring gear on the lathe with out making an adapter which would take to much time in itself. One of these days I will just take a grinder to it.

just open the cover, put the rear on jack stands, start the vehicle and put it in 1st gear low and let it idle the rear slowly. wahlah instant lathe and you can grind away.

My dad has a big ass commerical belt sander made by craftsman years ago.. It would be alot easier than a grinder and smoother at that.
