| one of the guys in my office asked me to help him spec out a build for his stock sahara TJ. if is an 04, with 100k miles on the engine.
Has about 4k to put into the build. I am considering the following - which is interesting since it has no lift, but high clearance fenders. Basically, a stock suspension running 35's but capable of fitting 37's.
Summary Gen-right high clearance front fender with 6 inch flare and perforated hood replacement. 750-850. Gen-right rear fenders with 6 inch flares and corner guards 350. 35 inch wheels and tires - 700. (the ones I have at home). Terra Flex high steer $750. AEV diff sliders. $450 alloy-usa rear axle shafts. $250 re-gear 4.88 to 1 ratio ring and pinion kit. $460. JKS quicker disconnect sway bar disconnects $160. -or spend 299 for a currie anti-rock sway bar replacement set instead. Add oil pan skid - not sure which one.... about $140.
total cost 4100. plus a lot of elbow grease.
Sell the existing rubicon rims and tires for about 500, put that into install on the ring and pinion, and an alignment following the high steer installation.
So, chime in with some alternate suggestions.
Stock rig, $4000 to spend. want to remain street worthy but ready for the rocks.

| I guess conventional thinking would be to go with the traditional = 4 inch lift and tires, and some armor, SYE, new shafts, alloy axles and lockers.
What I am thinking of a low stance with good diff clearance pull the steering up away from the rocks, leave a low breakover but a good climber and good side-hilling jeep. no drive line vibrations no need for SYE, but a light curb weight, on a nice wide stance. Would beat up the factory skids but stay relatively level with a low center of gravity. Still have enough up-travel to articulate....
Thinking? Is this a silly idea?
My goal is that it would be a good road driver that can run the competition routes without too much concern for rollovers. Break-over angle would be a challenge.

| Pretty tough to get away from SYE especially if you tuck which i think is necessary to keep the stance you want | |

| seems like with stock geometry you could do a tummy tuck w/o SYE - normally if I were to go 2" on a budget boost I would skip the SYE and try it.... HC belly pan should be about the same... | |

| Seems like the project is on hold - the owner is waffling on a new 07 4-door.
Still an interesting exercise. Will let you know if it starts to take shape again.
