| We were down to 1/8 tank of a 500 gallon tank so ordered a fill up. also asked for 100 gallons for the garage. The guy filled up the house and garage. 700 gallons of fuel puts a HUGE dent in the budget! I was pissed!....Still pissed! sorry, just had to vent. | |

| At those prices I'm not sure that pissed would be the word I would use. On the bright side its not like the stuff goes bad or will not be used in time. Still a big blow to the wallet. | |

Where did the other 162.5 gallons go???? Seriously - at that price I'd just shut off the heat and get everybody a snugglie!

Seriously - at that price I'd just shut off the heat and get everybody a snugglie! Garage tank is 250 gallons. I only wanted 100 gallons for now to keep from having such a large bill all at once. They filled it up.

I really haven't considered it, I just may look into that for next year.

| I got 650 gallons myself recently.. but got it at 2.70 a gallon, so it didn't hurt QUITE as bad as those paying $3+.
But when I first bought the house in late 2008, I filled all the tanks that were damn near bone dry.. That was over 1,000 gallons, at something like $3.50 a gallon. That shit hurt.

| I pay mine on a yearly budget...too damn poor to pay a big chunk like that! Last fill was at $3.01 a gallon on the 4th but it only took 148 gallons. | |

| I didn't think that oil heat was that common anymore. I know in older homes its common but I guess natural gas or propane isn't that common off the beaten path. | |

What does poor have to do with it? You're still paying the same in the end.. actually more, most likely. - makitupthehardway wrote:

Our house was built in 1991... No chance for CNG out by us, even though we're only 3 miles from town. Propane is an option, but even that isn't the deal it used to be.

| My only point is that I just couldn't handle a big tank full without spreading it out. Costs me about 2000 last year...looking like closer to 2300 this year. There's no interest on it or anything, just depends what fuel hits at, so yes, ultimately it could/will cost more. Sucks that it's also used to heat my water. Eventually I'm going to get gas to the house for a hot water heater which is much more efficient. A new furnace isn't in the cards right now and unfortunately the unit I have is at the end of its lifespan. | |

I hear ya! On a somewhat related note, my friend bought one of those hybrid hot water heaters (it's just him and his wife) and he's really seeing the advertised energy savings.. They're not cheap either, but the break even point is much less than 10 years.
