| Dates have been chosen for Jeeps on the Beach 2007: August 9-12. Danny & I are working on finding hotels a little closer to Orakoke Island this year. We need to know who is planning on going so we can make sure to find a place that will hold everyone. The closer we get to O. Island the smaller the places get & the less options there are. We may need to stay closer to where we were last year. We would like to make reservations now while the cost is still low so let us know if you are planning on coming. | |

| We pass GraveDigger on the way into town! The display truck at the shop has seen better days, but it is still cool! I called Owens Motel in Nags Head and they have several rooms available for $130 per night for that weekend. They get more expensive for ocean view. http://www.owensmotel.com/rates.htm | |

| Yeah they are all really expensive and no one has stayed at Owen's before. We were just shopping price and location to the off-road beach I was looking at the westside building: 1 dbl 1 single $125 1 Queen $110 2 doubles $150 facing courtyard.
On the phone she told me a block of double rooms in the west building would be $130 "Best she could do".... sounds like whoever you talk to at the time has a different price in their head
A few minutes farther North there are regular brand name hotels that we stayed in last year Days Inn in Kill Devil Hills is $135 night for 2 dbl beds N/S Holiday Inn Express in Kitty Hawk is $135 night 2 beds N/S These are just a little bit longer drive to the off-road beach, but they are right next to the regular swimming beach.

| how much longer drive? if just a few miles then it doesn't matter. being next to the swimming beach sounds like a good thing so we don't have to walk there. Just a thought. I will be bringing the family so 2 beds is a requirement. | |

| Bill, here is a map of the beach. It looks like Kitty Hawk is 10 miles north of Nags Head. Kill Devil Hills is in the middle. The offroad beach is on Bodie Island down rt 12 to the inlet. Its prob another 9 miles South of Nags Head. Any place we stay will be walking distance to the swimming beach! Sorry for the huge link...Hope it works right!
***Deleted*** It was way too long!

| I'll take this one & Danny, correct me if I am mistaken. It actually is neither. Danny & his dad & uncle started it a few years ago. They would take their Jeeps to the beach & hang out & relax for a few days. Last year he invited anyone from the Rock Raiders to join him. My husband & I were the only ones that were able to make it. The element of fishing was added to the event because of us (with some very stylish rod holders provided by Danny). Apparently that element has attracted a few more people this year. It's really a vacation kind of thing where the Jeeps are a means to get across the beach to the fishing spots. | |

| Yeah its nothing too official, just a time to hang out, sit on the beach, cast a line in the water and relax. There is no fee to drive on the beach. Anyone with 4wd can do it... (and some with AWD minivans try it) | |

| Danny, Any place you pick is fine with me. I think I'm just adding more confusion by thinking out loud. So with that in mind tell me where you are staying and I'll be there. Oh yeah and how about some ideas for a fishing rod holder.(pics would be great) I think I still have my 9' ugly stick surf rod. If it will do the trick. Distance really doesn't matter to me, jeep runs great on the road with my "street tires". | |

| Bill - check out the PVC pipe on the front of Danny's Jeep in the picture - that is the rod holder. I think we attached mine to the rear to the rollcage somewhere. Danny's dad left his rod in the holder on the way home & also left a plastic lure on it. We joked that he was "air fishing".
Von - yes you do need to be tagged so don't go taking your plate off or your Jeep off the road just yet (it's only 3 months away). Some of the trucks we saw down there were lifted higher than your Jeep & were on the road (I can't believe they were anywhere near legal) so I don't think you'll get stopped for any reason on the road unless you don't have the plate. P.S. - check your email.
Danny - we await your hotel instructions. P.S. - check your email too. | |

| I'll Call Owens in the morning and let them know! There be about 9 miles of 2 lane road highway driving, so tags are a good idea. I have no doubt that the Duelly could make it out on the beach with the jeep in tow...... its just a question of how far you will get B4 you have to pull the Jeep off the trailer and strap the tow rig! Don't worry.... Kat will be there to save you! | |

| Fishing Rod holder: not the right climate, but you get the idea. 1.5" PVC chopped into 2' pieces and bolted or zip tied wherever is convenient. In this pic I used a U-bolt and a grade 8 bolt. I used grade 8 because I wanted it to be able to hold the fish in the last pic! | |
