| Danny you forgot about the brew thru and saturday night we can either go to the black pelican or Jimmy's Buffet. The BP is a nice place near the beach and has a great steam bar. Jimmy's is a CRAZY MAD HOUSE, but its all you can eat and not to bad on the wallet. The wait is well over a hour at Jimmy's at normal dinner times. The BP is a little less but its on the beach so the wait isn't so bad. Someone was talking about the Jolly Roger so thats another place to try. I have been to two OHV beaches in the outer banks. Corova (north most point in the outerbanks) Cape Hatteras (the ferry is fun) This is going to be a blast. | |

| Does this effect our trip?
ACCESS STATUS AT BODIE ISLAND SPIT
Date: July 15, 2007 Contact: Outer Banks Group, 252-473-2111
Outer Banks Group Superintendent Mike Murray announced that effective Sunday,July 15, 2007, off-road vehicle (ORV) and pedestrian access is temporarily closed to the southern end of Bodie Island Spit to protect piping plover chicks that have recently hatched at a nest near the southeast corner of the spit. Bodie Island Spit on the north side of Oregon Inlet is one of the most popular beach destinations in the National Seashore. The temporary closure begins approximately 1.2 miles south of Ramp 4 and extends 0.9 miles south and west around the southern end of the spit to the sound shoreline near Bonner Bridge. To offset the temporary loss of access, the National Park Service (NPS) has opened an additional 0.5 miles of beach north of Ramp 4 (and south of Coquina Beach) to ORV access. A total of 3.4 miles of national seashore beach north of Oregon Inlet remains open for ORV access via Ramp 4 which is located at the north end of the Bonner Bridge. "We recognize there is a strong desire for recreational access in this location, particularly at this time of year," said Superintendent Mike Murray. "We are doing our best to protect a federally listed Threatened species, while at the same time trying to be responsive to the desire for public access when and where we can. The situation is temporary. Park biologists will monitor the area daily and we will make adjustments in access when feasible, based on the location, mobility and behavior of the chicks. We appreciate the cooperation and compliance from the public in complying with the closures that have been in effect." Piping plover chicks are typically mobile within 24 hours after hatching. Once mobile, the chicks will leave the nest and move extensively along the beach, intertidal zone, and mudflats to feed. Plover chicks have been documented to move hundreds of yards from the nest site during their first week of life. Piping plover chicks fledge (are able to fly) 25 to 35 days after hatching. Closure areas can typically be reopened after the chicks fledge. Beach areas used by chicks, for foraging and resting, etc. are closed to off-road vehicles (ORVs) since the typical behavior of piping plover chicks increases their vulnerability to ORVs. Chicks frequently move between the upper beach to moist sandy feeding areas such as mudflats and the intertidal zone. These movements can place them in the path of vehicles on the beach. Chicks sometimes stand motionless or crouch as vehicles pass by making them difficult to see or they simply do not move quickly enough to get out of the vehicle’s way. Tire ruts also cause problems as chicks often stand in, walk, and run along tire ruts and have difficulty crossing or climbing out of deep ruts. The Endangered Species Act (ESA) prohibits harassing, harming, pursuing, hunting, shooting, wounding, killing, trapping, capturing, or collecting federally protected species. Penalties for violations of the ESA for threatened species include a fine of up to $25,000, imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.

| Never mind Date: August 2, 2007 Contact: Outer Banks Group, 252-473-2111
Weekly Up-date:
During the month of August, park visitors will experience a shift in the resource protection areas as birds fledge and sea turtle nests hatch. The Park continues to operate and manage access under the Interim Strategy guidance. Beach Access is open as described below.
National Seashore beaches and inlets experience varying degrees of erosion and notable high tides and travel may be limited during high wind/tide conditions. Knowledge of tidal changes and caution should be exercised while traveling the beaches of the park. Peak season and visitation to park beaches requires extra precautionary measures. Please be aware the speed limit on all beaches is 25 mph and travel in areas with high concentrations of people and vehicles may require lower speeds. Use caution! Pets MUST be kept on a 6’ leash at all times.
The Park Beach Access Report is complemented weekly with the Park Resource Management Field Summary.
** Blue text = updated news.
Bodie Island District (Coquina Beach to Ramp 27) There are approximately 16.5 miles of ocean shoreline in the Bodie Island District (excluding Pea Island). 15.6 miles are open to pedestrians and 10.3 miles are open for ORV access.

| I hate to be a party pooper but.... Laurie fell down a flight of stairs at work yesterday... I left work (after putting in a 30 hour shift) to sit 6 hours in the ER... All the results came back fine... nothing broken... but she is so sore and on so many meds I don't think she would be comfy for a 6 hour trek... So unfortunately I will have to see you all on the next run... Have a safe trip all... wish I could come... have a few for me Tony | |

| Agreed. Lots of pictures were taken but with looking through them I couldn't find any that were appropriate to post to the board. Sorry everyone. Here is a brief summary: Drove, Drove, Drove, drove on the beach, pulled vehicle of nudists from sand, fished, played, swam, refreshments, pulled again and again, ate, socialized, slept and repeat. | |

| If you can't post them, then send a link internally to the selected membes. Are they all that bad? I appreciate your conviction. If you chose to send them via an E-mail, send me a link.
I hope you all got back safely and without carnage!

| After I got home I washed the jeep and it must not have liked it. I pulled out and it threw the drive belt off. Didn't have any tools but after it cooled I was able to get the belt halfway around the pulley and tapped the key to get the pully to pull the belt on. gonna have to replace the belt now. Knew I shouldn't wash it. | |

Yeah, just think of the nudists. On the beach sand gets everywhere and then when they try to high tail it out of there they get stuck. Didn't know it was tops optional down there.
