| So now I'm wondering How far I can stretch it? Ideally I want to stretch the front as far as possible and not so much for the rear. That way the motor is centered a little more within the wheelbase. | |

| you dont want to throw it too far forward some is good but to much takes away from traction on hill climbs | |

| Having a tranny built in Westminster, ordered it today. Opted for a TH400 that will mate to a 203 transfer case. Opted for the low gear set for a 2.75 1st gear, reverse manual valve body. I will be doing a chevy 203 to ford 205 doubler. I know it's heavy but I'm not in it to win, just to compete and have fun without worries about it falling apart on me. Shopping for a shifter now and looking for a 203. | |

| It will be a heavy SOB but if your driveshafts can hold up you will be able to treat the CJ just like the YJ. | |

| good point, i haven't given the driveshafts much thought yet. I know I will have to change length so i will likely beef them up while I'm at it. | |

| I would go with balanced square, which is almost bomb proof as far as the shaft is concerned. | |

| since you will be traveling at higher speeds than normal, I don't like to say this but, you prob. should consider spending the money and having a shop make one for you that is truly balanced, i am sure that they can make one for you that will handle the stress on your abuse also i believe that they can use almost any thickness tubing on the shaft ,within reason | |

| I don't know of a driveshaft shop that will balance a square shaft most tractor pto's only run 550 rpm think about the high speed. square shafts are very strong but i don't think it would be good for racing | |

| update: I have the tranny and shifter back, bought some tubing and now looking for an opportunity to dive in. most likely it will be in January though. giving more thought to the build.
Going to run a doubler behind the TH400 but still looking for a chevy 32 spline 203 transfer case. Have to go chevy 203 to ford 205 doubler to keep the tcase drivers drop. this will allow running in 2:1 for the higher speed sections and a top speed of 62 mph. Not that I'll be going that fast but it will allow good use of all the tranny gears. if there is a long section for wide open racing then i can go 1:1 in the tcase. for the crawl sections i can switch both tcases to low and gives me a 4:1 ratio for a 41 crawl ratio plus the effects from the torque converter. Should be plenty since I'm not doing slow crawl racing. Only downside is that this setup is HUGE and weights about 250#. Cost will be about 1/3 of the atlas cost though and I'm not worried about being super light weight and winnning any races. IF I can find a 203 tcase.
I've been thinking about the lack of visibility in the front end and may just remove the fenders, hood, and grill and tube it out making the hood as low as possible. | |

| anyone know if the 27 spline 203 has the same bolt pattern as the 32 spline version? Thinking of getting a 27 spline version that is available and swapping the shaft out for the 32 spline shaft. seals the same size? | |
